[CR129] Alexander Zverev (GER) has not been able to duplicate his brilliant performance of the bet-at-home Open in 2014; thus, he continues to linger outside the top 100. Despite the slow progress, there are signs he is maturing as a player. He has demonstrated more patience in recent matches. He has to get off to better starts, falling behind becomes too mentally and physically draining for him. He is not mature enough to consistently find a way to win from a losing position and he still struggles with fitness in longer matches.
I still believe he can be a much higher ranked player, maybe he won’t do so as quickly as some other players; however, he has the desire and a few powerful weapons. If he stays healthy and focused, he will eventually be a force on the Tour. This week he is playing in the qualifying rounds of the Miami Open. It would be a positive step if he makes it to the main draw; unfortunately, his first opponent is [CR72] Joao Souza (BRA), a rather feisty competitor. If he gets by Souza, it does not get any easier. He will have to use the patience he shows signs of developing and the weapons he possess to fight his way through. Can he make it to the main draw of this prestigious event?
