[CR85] Alexander Zverev (GER)
Zverev broke into the top one hundred for the first time on 05.18.2015 and is currently ranked 85. His hard work is beginning to pay dividends. Unfortunately, he lost in the second round of qualifying for the main draw of Roland Garros. He lost the first set in a tiebreaker 6-7(0), won the second set easily 6-2, and lost the third set 5-7 to [CR166] Igor Sijsling (NED). It was a tough loss for Zverev since he had chances to win the first set and potentially the match. Although he served better in the third set, the total points won on his first serve was the lowest of the match at 59%. Was fatigue a factor at this point or did Sijsling elevate his game in the third, sensing his opportunity to progress to the next round? Zverev will be disappointed to lose this one, but if he gave a 100% effort, he should walk away from this match taking the positives and using this experience to further aid his maturation. His progress up the rankings will only continue as he gets more opportunity to hone his skills in matches. He knows that he is learning and will take some hits along the way, so he just has to remember his primary objective(s).
