Kubot And Melo Too Tough

Nitto ATP Finals, London

Doubles Semifinal: [1] Lukasz Kubot & Marcelo Melo vs. [8] Ryan Harrison & Michael Venus

They were the undefeated team of the entire tournament; however, that was irrelevant when you consider that their opponents were the formidable duo of Kubot and Melo. Harrison and Venus got off to a very slow start, their game was hampered by a case of severe “stage fright” and they got broken in their first service game to add even more pressure to their young shoulders.

The veteran duo of Kubot and Melo was not about to show any mercy and they continued to apply the pressure relentlessly to Harrison and his good buddy. The first set was a blow out. Although they made more of a match in the second set, the American and the New Zealander did not capitalize on their numerous break chances and that was their undoing.

Constantly playing catch up, Harrison lost his serve late in the second set to seal their fate. Kubot calmly stepped up to the line and served it out without a hitch to advance his team to the final. They won 6-1, 6-4 and will contest the doubles final against the number two ranked team of Henri Kontinen and John Peers.
