MOVER OF THE WEEK: Hubert Hurkacz
The Masters 1000 events are the third biggest events on the ATP Tour. They are third to the majors and the ATP Finals in terms of prestige and ranking points. To win a Masters 1000 title is a coveted accomplishment and all players hope to win at least one. It puts you in an elite group of players and cements your status on tour.
FIRST MASTERS 1000 TITLE FOR HURKACZ
Granted the field was a tad diluted this year because of the coronavirus; yet, it was still highly competitive, and the matches were quality performances from all those who entered. The number two rank player was in the draw and he did not win the title. It was not an easy route to the Miami Open final for Hubert Hurkacz, who took out two top ten players to get there. Let’s see how he builds on this going forward in 2021.

ATP & WTA TOP 10 RANKING CHANGES
ATP: All the of the top ten members remained the same, with Novak Djokovic still being the top dog at #1. Alexander Zverev and Roger Federer traded places to #6 and #7 respectively.
WTA: There were a few changes in the top ten members. Petra Kvitova fell out of the top ten to #11. Aryna Sabalenka and Kiki Bertens each moved up one spot to #7 and #10 respectively. Karolina Pliskova fell three spots to #9. Serena Williams fell one spot to #8. Bianca Andreescu moved up three spots to #6 and Ashleigh Barty remains at #1.
SPECIAL MENTION: Venus Williams’ ranking continues the downward slide. At forty years old, and more frequently injured than healthy, I continue to wonder “Why?”.
