Eighth Title For Federer

06212015 Roger FedererGerry Weber Open, Halle

Men’s Final: [CR2] Roger Federer (SUI) vs. [CR45] Andreas Seppi (ITA)

Seppi had chances in two consecutive service games of Federer to win the first set. Federer showed why he is considered the “King of Grass” by many. He elevated his game when it was critical, a testament of his mental strength. Seppi feeling frustrated could not get it going in the tiebreak as he remained mentally stuck on those missed opportunities. The first set was crucial for Seppi and he understood that. His dejection was evident as the tiebreak came to a resounding close in Federer’s favor.

The second set was a continuation of the first as Federer continued to serve well and Seppi continued to miss his opportunities. It’s demoralizing for a lower ranked player to give his best and still come out on the losing side. Yet, Seppi tried to put that behind him and fought to defeat Federer.  However, it was not meant to be as Federer had every intention of winning this title for the eighth time. Tennis, it’s a game of inches and today they all went the way of Federer.  In the end, a few costly errors did Seppi in and Federer won 7-6(1), 6-4.
