Can Sofia Kenin Rise Again At Roland Garros?

Sofia Kenin was ranked as high as number four on the WTA in 2020. Kenin won her first major title in 2020 at the Australian Open and was also a finalist at Roland Garros that same year. The American is currently ranked thirty and has been slowly climbing her way back up the rankings. Today she played well enough to defeat a tough opponent, Varvara Gracheva. However, [31] Sofia Kenin made it look easy with the 6-3, 6-1 victory. Kenin will next face long-time veteran, Victoria Azarenka, who had an extremely easy day at the office in her previous match.

Coco Gauff Amongst American Winners

[2] Coco Gauff defeated Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2. Nice to see [3] Jessica Pegula on the winning side of things. Pegula defeated Anca Todoni 6-2, 6-4. Ethan Quinn got a lucky victory due to the retirement of his opponent. Quinn made it through the qualifying rounds to defeat Dimitrov 2-6, 3-6, 6-2, RET. Just goes to show, if you hang around long enough, you never know what can happen.

Ashlyn Krueger defeated Suzan Lamens 6-3, 6-4. Ann Li defeated the qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle 6-4, 6-0. [13] Ben Shelton gets a nice reprieve to recover after his battle in the first round because his second round opponent, Hugo Gaston, withdrew from the tournament. Alycia Parks upset [14] Karolina Muchova.

Notable Seeds That Bit The Dust On Day Three

[11] Daniil Medvedev fought back from a two-set deficit, but he just could not get over the final hurdle. Former top ten player, Cameron Norrie, denied him the victory. Norrie won 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6, 7-5. American Hailey Baptiste knocked out the former top ten player, [23] Beatriz Haddad Maia. [16] Grigor Dimitrov lost his match by retirement despite having a two-set to one lead over American, Ethan Quinn. The American duo of [7] Caroline Dolehide/Desirae Krawczyk fell apart after winning the first set 6-1. They lost to the team of Danilovic/Potapova 6-1, 4-6, 5-7. Wild card Lois Boisson dispatched of [24] Elise Mertens 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. [30] Hubert Hurkacz lost 2-6, 4-6, 2-6 to the teenage Brazilian phenom, Joao Fonseca. Hurkacz is playing post right knee meniscus tear and surgery as well as his continued struggles with back issues. It is not surprising he lost, because movement is essential on clay and he just was not moving well enough to be a threat.
