Amanda Anisimova defeated Putintseva in forty-four minutes. There previous four encounters were all won in straight sets, but never so one-sided. The American led their H2H 3:1. Next up for the American will be Renata Zarazua. Anisimova leads their H2H 2:0; however, I am always wary at majors, because everyone is hungry. Other American Victors On Day One

[6] Madison Keys had a harder time than expected in her match against Elena-Gabriela Ruse. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Keys came back to win 7-5, 7-5 in the second and third sets. Nicolas Jarry upset [8] Holger Rune. Rune won the first two sets but could not find a way to get the victory. Benjamin Bonzi gets the upset of day one when he defeated [9] Daniil Medvedev. The French player won 7-6(2), 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2. [16] Francisco Cerundolo lost to Nuno Borges after winning the first set. Borges won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-0. [32] Matteo Berrettini lost to Kamil Majchrzak. Majchrzak won the five-set thriller 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
