Taylor Townsend is best known for her doubles game and is currently ranked number one in doubles, with ten titles. Contrast this to her singles career, where she has yet to claim her first singles title. Time is running out for the American. In the grand scheme of things, twenty-nine is not that old, but for tennis, one is on the downward slope of their career.
Can Taylor Townsend Step Up In New York?
Much was expected from Taylor Townsend; however, as is usually the case for promising juniors. Some deliver as professionals and some struggle to make the transition. Her highest singles ranking was forty-six in 2024. Her recent run to the quarterfinals of the WTA500 event in DC gave her ranking a much-needed boost. Does she still have enough left in the tank to win that elusive first singles title? Anything is possible, but I am not liking her chances.

ATP & WTA Top Ten Ranking Changes
ATP: there were a few positional changes in the top ten. Ben Shelton moved up one spot to #7. Alex de Minaur moved up five spots to #8. Lorenzo Musetti fell three spots #10. The top four players are still: [1] Jannik Sinner; [2] Carlos Alcaraz; [3] Alexander Zverev; and [4] Taylor Fritz.
WTA: there were no changes in the top ten. The top four players are still: [1] Aryna Sabalenka; [2] Coco Gauff; [3] Iga Swiatek; and [4] Jessica Pegula.
Other Top Ten Ranking News
There are currently four American women in the top ten: Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, [7] Amanda Anisimova, and [8] Madison Keys. There are also currently two American men in the top ten: [4] Taylor Fritz and [7] Ben Shelton.
The following players fell out of the top ten: Andrey Rublev fell one spot out of the top ten to #11.
