Wimbledon: Taylor Fritz Keeps Fighting To Another Round

Taylor Fritz

Taylor Fritz is not making life easy for himself. His first round match took two days to be completed. Then his second round match also went the distance. He has played three consecutive days. When you are eighteen, that’s nothing; however, at twenty-seven you begin to feel the toll of long matches. No matter how physically fit you are, you also feel the emotional and mental toll of long drawn-out matches. Thus, my question remains the same, “What has it cost the American to be in such lengthy matches?” Only Fritz and his team know the answer to that question.

Taylor Fritz Had Another Battle Today

Today [5] Taylor Fritz took on [26] Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Surprisingly, the Spaniard led their H2H 3:2 going into this match. However, there one previous encounter on grass earlier this season was won by the American. Nevertheless, we knew Davidovich Fokina would not be a push over. Fritz won 6-4, 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1.

Ben Shelton Amongst American Winners

[10] Ben Shelton had to play two consecutive days to complete his second round match. Thankfully, he got it done immediately and did not let it become a dragged out affair. He defeated Rinky Hijikata 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. Next up for Shelton is the dangerous lucky loser, Marton Fucsovics. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain if he can defeat the American. Shelton had better be on the alert. [13] Amanda Anisimova had to earn this victory against Dalma Galfi. Galfi ranked one hundred and ten had taken out the twenty-first seed in the previous round; thus, the American knew she would have a battle on her hands. Anisimova won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

Madison Keys Amongst Fallen Day Five Seeds

American [6] Madison Keys lost fairly easily to Laura Siegemund 3-6, 3-6. This was shocking given the weapons Keys has at her disposal. However, if the major weapon is not functioning properly, it is often difficult to secure the victory. Interesting to note Keys won their previous Wimbledon encounter easily in 2016. [14] Elina Svitolina lost in straight sets to [24] Elise Mertens 1-6, 6-7(4).
