Carlos Alcaraz made relatively quick work of [32] Luciano Darderi. In their first meeting it was a dominant performance for the Spaniard. Darderi tried to make it a match in the second set; however, it was still not enough. Alcaraz won 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.
Carlos Alcaraz Leads Their H2H
Carlos Alcaraz will face Arthur Rinderknech in the next round. Rinderknech has yet to beat the Spaniard, who leads their H2H 3:0. However, this is a major and the Frenchman has taken two sets from the Spaniard, so be prepared for anything. The question though is can the Frenchman consistently play high quality tennis to rattle Alcaraz?

[4] Jessica Pegula defeated veteran, Victoria Azarenka, 6-1, 7-5. Pegula led their H2H 4:3 going into the match, so this victory allows her to extend her lead in their H2H. One wonders how many more years Azarenka will play. Although Azarenka contested much better in the second set, it was not enough to upset Pegula. [4] Taylor Fritz had his hands full with the qualifier in the first two sets. Jerome Kym evened the match after Fritz won the first set in a tiebreaker. That was the only let down in Fritz’s game, who fought back to win the match 7-6(3), 6-7(9), 6-4, 6-4.

[5] Mirra Andreeva was not ready for the storm know as Taylor Townsend. Although Townsend was behind in the match, she came back to upset the fifth seed 7-5, 6-2. Ann Li defeated the qualifier, Priscilla Hon, 7-5, 6-3.
Ben Shelton Amongst Fallen American Seeds
Unfortunately, American fans are a bit bummed that [6] Ben Shelton withdrew from the tournament after a fall, where he injured his left shoulder. Thus, Adrian Mannarino gets a gift into the fourth round. The match was tied at 2 sets each when Shelton retired. [10] Emma Navarro won the first set, but she could not roll with the momentum. Barbora Krejcikova won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. [17] Frances Tiafoe led their H2H 2:1 going into this match. However, Tiafoe was not ready for this version of Jan-Lennard Struff. The German is on a mission and Tiafoe despite his effort in the third set failed to derail him. Struff won 6-5, 6-3, 7-6(7).

[7] Jasmine Paolini ran into the force known as Marketa Vondrousova. However, do not be surprised, Vondrousova was ranked as high as number six in 2023. She knows how to play, and that she did against the consistent play of Paolini. Vondrousova won 7-6(4), 6-1. [19] Elise Mertens lost to Cristina Bucsa. The Spaniard shook off the nerves and fought back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. [31] Leylah Fernandez could not recapture her level of play to defeat the number one ranked WTA player, Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka took control of the first set, but Fernandez fought back in the second set. The Belarusian eventually won 6-3, 7-6(2).
