Victoria Mboko Stunned The Tennis World In Canada

Victoria Mboko

Victoria Mboko claimed historic first title on home soil. It wasn’t just any old title; it was a WTA 1000 title. Given a wild card entry into the National Bank Open, the eighteen year-old Canadian took full advantage of her opportunity. They say fortune favors the bold, well, she was BOLD. The Canadian impressed me by her tennis IQ. I watched as she adjusted her game and played with conviction to beat top notch veteran players as well as the number one seed.

Injury Did Not Derail Victoria Mboko

Victoria Mboko believed and played like a champion. She did what former major champions were not able to do, she elevated her game and played to win without fear. Or perhaps it is better to say, despite the fear, she stepped up courageously and executed her game plan to defeat every one of her opponents. Despite injuring her wrist during the tournament, she would not be derailed from her goal, the title. Mboko defeated Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
