Amanda Anisimova Gets Revenge For Her Wimbledon Thrashing

Amanda Anisimova

[8] Amanda Anisimova used her racquet to rewrite the narrative. Memories of that rout in the Wimbledon final can now be washed away after the American defeated [2] Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3. While it was not the final of a major, it was pretty close. The nerves were still present in this match, but this time Anisimova was able to conquer them by hitting out on her shots. She made life very uncomfortable for the former number one ranked player.

Amanda Anisimova Had The Stats On Her Side

Amanda Anisimova was behind for both sets; however, she was not troubled. She broke her opponent four times and that was the deciding statistic. Another important statistic was that she had a significantly higher percentage of second serve return points won. This was a much better performance for the American and she will need to play even better in the next round if she wants to get to the final of the US Open.

FAA Has Also Rewritten His Narrative

[25] Felix Auger-Aliassime was once ranked as high as number six on the ATP Tour in 2022. We saw his talent early in his career. However, the talent was just not translating into the titles many thought he should have won. Then there was a stretch where he could not seem to string two wins together and he was easy picking for other players. Something has shifted or finally clicked. The Canadian is playing some of his best tennis that I have seen in a very long time.

It was not an easy victory, but he dug deep to claim the four-set victory which took over four hours. It was a mentally, physically, and emotionally draining match. [8] Alex de Minaur took the lead when he won the first set 6-4. However, Felix Auger-Aliassime went right back to work. They traded breaks in the second and fourth sets, which were decided by tiebreakers won by the Canadian. He won 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-5, 7-6(4) to get back to his second US Open semifinals. In the process, he also stated, “I can play with the big boys.”

The Other Results Of Day Eleven Matches

[11] Karolina Muchova came up short in her match against [23] Naomi Osaka. Perhaps if she had won the second set tiebreaker, it would have been a different result. We will never know because she did not win the second set; Osaka won 6-4, 7-6(3). [1] Jannik Sinner did not have to do much to win his match against his compatriot. The talented [10] Lorenzo Musetti did not show up. Sinner won 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.
