Seventeen-Year-Old Iva Jovic Comes Of Age In Mexico

Iva Jovic has been on the lips of many who know about tennis for several years now. Jovic played her first ITF tournament in 2022 and got to the final. She won her first ITF title in October 2023. She was in the finals of three consecutive ITF tournaments in 2024. In her fourth consecutive ITF final, she defeated Victoria Mboko (September 2024). In her fifth consecutive ITF final, she defeated Ena Shibahara, who had defeated her in her first ITF final in 2022.

Iva Jovic Wins First WTA Singles Title

Iva Jovic won her first WTA125 tournament earlier this year, in June. She made it to the third round on the Cincinnati Open, a Masters1000 tournament, last month. This teenager has been gaining momentum. In her first WTA Tour final, she claimed her first singles title at a WTA500 tournament. Granted in the Guadalajara Open, there were few top tier players; however, Iva Jovic still had to play to win. Of note, her three toughest matches were from players ranked outside the top hundred.

ATP & WTA Top Ten Ranking Changes

ATP: there were no positional changes in the top ten due to the Davis Cup. The top four players currently are: [1] Carlos Alcaraz; [2] Jannik Sinner; [3] Alexander Zverev; and [4] Novak Djokovic.

WTA: there were some positional changes in the top ten. Amanda Anisimova climbed five spots to a career high of #4. Jessica Pegula fell three spots to #7 and Qinwen Zheng fell two spots to #9. The top four players currently are: [1] Aryna Sabalenka; [2] Iga Swiatek; [3] Coco Gauff; and [4] Amanda Anisimova.

Other Top Ten Ranking News

There are currently four American women in the top ten: Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, [6] Madison Keys, and [7] Jessica Pegula. There are also currently two American men in the top ten: [5] Taylor Fritz and [6] Ben Shelton.
