Roberto Bautista Agut Clinging To The Top Hundred

Roberto Bautista Agut

Roberto Bautista Agut is known for his tenacity. He was previously ranked as high as nine in the 2019. He has twelve singles titles to his name. Bautista Agut turned professional in 2005. Like so many tennis players, injury and life have played roles in his career. Groin and abdominal injuries in 2018, the death of his mother in 2018, and the death of his father in 2019. Do not be fooled by his reserved demeanor though, the Spaniard is fiercely competitive.

Roberto Bautista Agut Hanging On

So many athletes, like so many people, struggle with letting go. They struggle to let go of the dopamine high that comes with competition. Yet, no matter how much they may want to continue, their bodies eventually break down. Sometimes they have to know when to let go, retire, and move on to something else. I have enjoyed watching the quiet competitive determination of this Spaniard. He is one of four players aged thirty-seven and above still ranked in the top hundred. Is this the end though? He has not played since the US Open.
