Dashed hopes

Western & Southern Open, Cincinnati

Men’s Semifinal: [CR6] David Ferrer (ESP) vs. [CR41] Julien Benneteau (FRA)

Benneteau saw his dreams of winning his first singles title disappear today, losing to  Ferrer in the semifinal round at the Western and Southern Open.

He fought valiantly, but the fatigue was apparent in his game.  His weary legs were just a step slower and poor positioning saw his balls flying long or into the net. When you play Ferrer you have to be physically ready to play and do so at a consistently high level, because Ferrer is known for his incredible foot speed. He is relentless in his determination to get to every ball, forcing the other player to sometimes go for shots outside their comfort zone.

Ferrer was ecstatic to be in another ATP Masters 1000 Final, that was evident in the huge charming smile he wore as he threw his hands in the air in celebration of the 6-3, 6-2 victory.
