Speaking quietly with his racquet

Western and Southern Open, Cincinnati

[CR55] Steve Johnson (USA) has been steadily working his way up the ranks, quietly taking care of business.  He had a nice win tonight at the Western & Southern Open against the talented, yet unpredictable [CR13] Ernests Gulbis (LAT).

In their previous encounter, Johnson had taken the win in a four setter at the 2012 US Open.  Tonight was a much easier endeavor, taking down the Latvian, 6-4, 6-4. A new crop of young American talent is beginning to take shape, and Johnson along with [CR56] Jack Sock are leading the charge.
