Sweet revenge for Serena

BNP Paribas WTA Finals, Singapore

Championship Match: [CR1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. [CR4] Simona Halep (ROU)

Serena had memories of her recent horrendous loss to Halep in this tournament and when she got broken in her second game, there must have been a moment of panic.  Yet, nerves were also present on the other side of the net and Halep would immediately lose her serve.  The first set was scrappy as both players tried to get over their tension.  However, experience was on Serena’s side and she did a better job at responding to the situation, controlling her nerves to win the first set.

Halep hoped to regroup in the second set, but that was not Serena’s intent.  Serena’s serve was on and she found the rhythm on her ferocious groundstrokes, dominating the second set.  Halep remained unnerved and unprepared for the pace of Serena’s shots and her relentless attack. Halep was not allowed to play her game and spent the second set looking stunned as the match rapidly slipped out of her grasp.

Serena proved once again that she should never be underestimated, she found a way to revise her game and got revenge, winning 6-3, 6-0.
