First ATP singles final

042015 Jack SockFayez Sarofim & Co. US Men’s Championship

Men’s Semifinals: [CR16] Kevin Anderson (RSA) vs. [CR46] Jack Sock (USA)

It was a battle of big serves and forehands, who would prevail? Sock had all the break chances in the first set and managed to let them slip away; however, he regrouped nicely in the tiebreaker to take the first set. Sock was the more confident player, striking the ball with authority and attacking almost everything Anderson sent his way. Surprisingly, Anderson, the more seasoned player, was the one hampered by the effects of tension which caused him to make too many unforced errors.  Sock had more opportunities to break in the second, would he finally capitalize?  If he won this match, it would be his first visit to the final of an ATP Tour event; would nerves begin to cramp his style?  Sock showed his maturity, despite some tension creeping into his game on serve, he managed to control the nerves to serve out the match 7-6(3), 6-3.  He will have to battle not only his opponent, but also the nerves of playing in his first singles final, will he be able to reign them in to win his first ATP singles title tomorrow?
