Young Does It Twice

US OPEN

[CR22] Viktor Troicki (SRB) vs. [CR68] Donald Young (USA)

Young did it again. He came back from a two set deficit to win the match for the second time in his career and did so both times at this US Open. Troicki also did it again, for the second time this year at a Major, he lost the match after winning the first two sets.  Is Young finally beginning to put it all together?  For years he was talked about as a talented young American, and much was expected of him.  Now at the age of twenty-six, is he beginning to live up to those expectations?  Today he showed more grit and determination than I have seen from him in a long time.  Another thing that was impressive, he stayed calm and did not let his emotions ruin his focus, something in the past that was a frequent cause of his demise in close matches.

Young impressed me. Despite an ailing back that required treatment, he fought for the victory.  He did not quit mentally or physically.  The fact that he has done so twice at this US Open, in these conditions, speaks volumes about his level of fitness.  Spare a thought for Troicki though, who let another two set lead slip away; however, all credit to Young who believed in his game enough to put up the fight and won the match in five sets.  It did not look good after he dropped the second set 6-0; however, Young’s desire to win was strong and some incredible shot making gained him the  4-6, 0-6, 7-6(3), 6-2, 6-4 victory.  He’s into the round of sixteen at a Major for the second time in his career and plays Stan Wawrinka next.

  1. What a match!! I’m impressed also. Looking forward to match between Young and Wawrinka. I believe Donald has beaten Stan in the past. It should be a good one!!
