Raonic Outslugged Wawrinka

AUSTRALIAN OPEN

MATCH OF THE DAY: [4] Stan Wawrinka (SUI) vs. [13] Milos Raonic (CAN)

While on paper it may look like an upset, Raonic was a top ten player until injury and subsequent surgery disrupted his game. Granted in four matches against Wawrinka, Raonic had won only one set. However, Raonic is a confident player who believes in himself and his game and he plays every point with that conviction.  The mental edge despite their head-to-head went to Raonic who is extremely motivated to get back into the ranks of the elite. It was not an easy victory though, after securing the first two sets, Wawrinka made a charge in the next two sets.  Victory would go to the player that won the fifth set.  Who was fitter mentally and physically?  Who wanted it more? Raonic outslugged Wawrinka to win 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-3.
