Djokovic Reigns Supreme

AUSTRALIAN OPEN

MEN’S FINAL: [1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. [2] Andy Murray (GBR)

Djokovic remains unstoppable as he claimed Australian Open title number 6.  He is the dominant force of men’s tennis, ruthlessly destroying just about everyone in his path, top seeds included.  Yet, Djokovic is not invincible as Gilles Simon proved when he took two sets and forced a fifth set in the round of sixteen; however, to beat him you have to get over the obstacle of Djokovic’s indomitable will to win. He elevates his game at crucial moments and does this consistently better than anyone at the moment.  The top seeds so far have been unable able to regularly find a way to handle the talent that’s Djokovic.

The only chance Murray had of winning this match was to play his best and start off quickly. Unfortunately, he did not and that was pretty much the end of the match. Djokovic won 6-1, 7-5, 7-6(3).   It is mentally draining to have to come back from a set down normally, against Djokovic it is debilitating. Then even if you do so, it drains you for the rest of the match and you have nothing left for the final push necessary to defeat him. Tennis as in life goes through cycles, every generation there is someone who captures the attention of the tennis world with their brilliance; however, eventually someone else comes along and dethrones them.  At the moment, there is no one in sight capable of doing so and Djokovic will continue to reign until then.
