Monaco Turns The Tables On Lopez

Fayez Sarofim & Co US Men’s Clay Court Championship

Men’s  Semifinal: [24] Feliciano Lopez (ESP) vs. [148] Juan Monaco (ARG)

Wrist Injury had taken a toll on Monaco’s already shaky confidence back in 2015, finding the will to fight back after dropping out of the top one hundred would not be easy. The journey back has been a rough one, moments of brilliance followed with many moments of poor play.  The older you get the harder it is to bounce back mentally and physically.  At this age to still want to compete at a high level says a lot about Monaco’s character as well as his love of the sport.  Tennis for so many players is not just a career, it’s a passion.  It’s that passion that makes tennis so much fun to watch when they give everything they have to win a match, despite the odds of succeeding.  Monaco also proved that heart is also a big thing in tennis when he defeated Lopez today 6-4, 6-2.  He had not beaten Lopez since 2009 and Lopez led their head-to-head coming into this match 4:2.  Monaco is into his 20th career final, will he win his first title since 2013?
