[8] Venus Williams won her match after a bit of a struggle in the first set 7-6(3), 6-4.

[9] Madison Keys had an easy day at the office, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Sam Querrey won a titanic battle against giant slayer, Lukas Rosol, 6-7(6), 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2, 12-10

Steve Johnson won his match 7-5, 7-6(2), 6-4 against a tricky opponent, Malek Jaziri.

Varvara Lepchenko came back to win after dropping the first set 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-2.

[27] Jack Sock defeated the always dangerous, Ernests Gulbis, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Samantha Crawford defeated [209] Paula Kania (POL) 7-5, 6-3.

Out of the seventeen (17) Americans that played on day one, only seven (7) made it into the second round (41%).  Hopefully the stats will be much better on day two for the Americans.  The women’s defending champion, Serena Williams, will take Centre Court tomorrow at 8:00am EST.  Williams “is not feeling any pressure”; however, first round matches can be somewhat dangerous for her.
