Coco Wins Second Singles Title

Ricoh Open, Netherlands

Women’s Final: [32] Kristina Mladenovic (FRA) vs. [43] Coco Vandeweghe (USA)

Vandeweghe wins her second singles title in ‘s-Hertogenbosch against a very tough opponent, Mladenovic.  Mladenovic served to force a third set but was broken twice to lose the match in straight sets.  Vandeweghe seemed to grow in confidence as the tournament progressed and a confident Vandeweghe is even more dangerous and she proved that by not dropping a set the entire tournament.  Mladenovic had chances, perhaps the fatigue she has been feeling caught up to her and the intermittent stops and starts because of rain certainly did not help.  Vandeweghe won 7-5, 7-5.

2016KaPAegon Open, Nottingham

Women’s Final: [17] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) vs. [89] Alison Riske (USA)

Riske has been struggling to find her form of 2014.  After a dismal 2015, Riske got off to a great start this year, getting to the final in Shenzhen before losing to Agnieszka Radwanska.   Since then she has been struggling to find consistency.  This run to the final did not end in a title; however, Riske can use it to rejuvenate her season and boost her ranking.  She came so close; she had set points and could not convert any, a result perhaps of lingering jitters in the confidence department.  Pliskova won 7-6(8), 7-5 and gained her fifth career singles title.  T
