Happy 4th For Querrey And The Williams Sisters

WIMBLEDON, Great Britain

QUERREY BACKS UP HIS EPIC WIN

[28] Sam Querrey (USA) vs. [51] Nicolas Mahut (FRA)

There was no letdown today for Querrey.  We have gotten so used to seeing players defeat a top ten player or someone ranked much higher only to falter horribly in the next round.  Not so Querrey, he backed it up today with more brilliant tennis and defeated Mahut  for the first time in three encounters 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-4 to get to his first Major quarterfinal.

Venus 2016OLDER SISTER STILL IN THE DRAW

[8] Venus Williams (USA) vs. [12] Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP)

“The first time that you win, no one picked you…..the last time that you win, no one picked you….you have to believe in yourself”.  Even when the results weren’t there, Williams has always believed in herself.   It’s that belief that has seen her fight to get her ranking back in the top 10 after ending 2011 ranked 103. They were tied 3:3 going into this match and they have alternated winning. This is grass though and Williams knows her way around the surface.  She fought back from a double break to win 7-6(3), 6-4.

2016SerenaSERENA DISHES OUT ANOTHER BAGEL

[1] Serena Williams (USA) vs. [13] Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS)

Not sure what happened in the first set, Serena was playing really well then all of a sudden she was in danger of losing the first set.  Williams did what we have gotten used to seeing; she elevated her game and broke back then broke again to win the first set 7-5.  The second set was a brutal dismantling of Kuznetsova, who had a wry smile on her face in the latter stages of the match as she recognized that a bagel was inevitable.  Williams move into her twelfth quarterfinal at Wimbledon with the 7-5, 6-0 defeat of Kuznetsova.
