A Career High For Kristina Kucova

WEEK:  08.01.2016

Kristina Kucova gets the well-deserved honors of mover of the week.  She put on an impressive display of tennis fueled by determination. She had to first get through the qualifying rounds to get to the main draw. En route to her first main draw semifinals; she defeated Yanina Wickmayer, who came off winning a title the previous weekend, in the first round.  Then she knocked out top ten player, Carla Suarez Navarro.  In the third round she defeated hometown favorite, Eugenie Bouchard.  She came back from a set down and a break down to win that match in three sets as Bouchard folded under the pressure. In the quarterfinals, she easily dispatched of Johanna Konta.  Her run came to an abrupt end in the semifinals though; she was no match for the ferocity of Madison Keys.  Keys dispatched her 6-2, 6-1.  Despite that lost, Kucova should be proud of her efforts, she found out a few positive things about her mental and physical strength and I hope she will build on this result for the remainder of the season/career.
