Arruabarrena Moves Up The Ranking

WEEK:  09.26.2016

Lara Arruabarrena is the mover of the week.  She captured her second career singles WTA Tour title over the weekend at the Korean Open.  Arruabarrena proved that determination and hard work does pay off if you persevere.  It was a rather interesting final and the score tells the story.  She defeated Monica Niculescu 6-0, 2-6, 6-0. I often wonder why some players don’t win more titles; however, as Stan Wawrinka pointed out when asked about becoming number one, “you have to play at a high level consistently week in and week out” and he does not.  That is true for many players as well and that is why their results do not accurately correlate with their talent.

PLAYERS (within  the top 100) SPOTS MOVED NEW RANK
Thiago Monteiro (BRA) UP  12 87
Yuichi Sugita (JPN) UP  10 88
Lara Arruabarrena (ESP) UP  29 61
Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) UP  27 53
Naomi Osaka (JPN) UP  19 47
Mandy Minella (LUX) UP  15 97
Magda Linette (POL) UP  14 95
Belinda Bencic (SUI) DOWN  14 40
Donna Vekic (CRO) UP  10 94

ATP & WTA Tours: there were no changes in the top ten members from last week.  They all maintained their exact positions from last week. The number one ranked female player is Angelique Kerber and on the men’s side, Novak Djokovic.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Lucas Pouille and Alexander Zverev won their first career singles ATP World Tour title over the weekend…..CONGRATULATIONS!
