Nadal And Zverev Did Not Survive The Mania

5 time Wimbledon Champion [10] Venus Williams made easy work of [27] Ana Konjuh and won 6-3, 6-2.  Her quarterfinal opponent will be [13] Jelena Ostapenko.  Ostapenko defeated [4] Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6(6).

[24] Coco Vandeweghe defeated [5] Caroline Wozniacki 7-6(4), 6-4.  Her quarterfinalist opponent will be Magdalena Rybarikova, the player who knocked out one of the favorites, Karolina Pliskova.  Rybarikova defeated Petra Martic 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

[24] Sam Querrey defeated Kevin Anderson 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-7(11), 6-3.  Querrey is back in the quarterfinals for the second straight consecutive year and will play [1] Andy Murray next.  Murray defeated [46] Benoit Paire 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-4.

[14] Garbine Muguruza defeated [1] Angelique Kerber 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.  Her quarterfinal opponent will be [7] Svetlana Kuznetsova.  Kuznetsova defeated [9] Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-4.

[2] Simona Halep defeated Victoria Azarenka 7-6(3), 6-2.  She will meet [6] Johanna Konta next.  Konta defeated [21] Caroline Garcia 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4.

[7] Marin Cilic defeated [18] Roberto Bautista Agut fairly easily 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.  He will face [16] Gilles Muller next.  In the match of the day/tournament, Muller knocked out [4] Rafael Nadal in a match that went four hours and forty-eight minutes.  Nadal dropped the first two sets, but came back to win the next two sets.  Everyone thought that he would ride the momentum to victory; however, Muller had other plans and he dug his heels in to win the epic match 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13.  While this may seem like an upset on paper, Nadal was expected to have trouble with this opponent since Muller has been playing the best tennis of his career this season.

[3] Roger Federer defeated [13] Grigor Dimitrov relatively comfortably 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.  Next up is last year’s finalist, [6] Milos Raonic; this will be a repeat of last year’s semifinal match.  Raonic defeated our spotlight player, [10] Alexander Zverev, 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

[11] Tomas Berdych defeated [8] Dominic Thiem 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.  He will await the winner of the [2] Novak Djokovic vs. [51] Adrian Mannarino match.  Their match was delayed due to the length of the match between Nadal and Muller.

I am extremely thrilled to have three Americans in the quarterfinals; however, I am a bit deflated that both Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev did not make it.
