Kontinen and Peers defend title

Doubles Championship: [1] Marcelo Melo and Lukasz Kubot vs. [2] Henri Kontinen and John Peers

The defending doubles champion worked hard to get to the final; however, once they got there, they were impeccable. The newly crowned world number one doubles team of Melo and Kubot were no match for the defending champions of Kontinen and Peers.

Melo struggling on his serve since the semifinals, gave the defending champions the one break they needed to secure the first set and after that it seemed they grew in confidence. In contrast, it was a psychological blow to Kubot and Melo who seemed unable to cope with the disappointment of losing that first set.

The number one ranked team never recovered from losing the first set and things quickly unraveled for them in the second set. They lost their belief and along with that their games as both were broken to lose the second set and the match.

While they struggled, Kontinen and Peers continued to play with confidence, hitting winner after winner. The first set they never faced a break point against their serves; however, they saved all break points against their serves in the second set. They were keen to defend their title and they did so, defeating Kubot and Melo 6-4, 6-2.
