Basic cracks top hundred barrier

Basic cracks top 100 barrier

WEEK: 02.12.2018

Mirza Basic gets the mover of the week honors. From obscurity to the spotlight in one week, the Bosnian got to his first ATP World Tour final and won it (Sofia Open). Basic accomplished two of his goals over the weekend: won his first title on Tour and cracked the top hundred barrier. He won this title battling not only his opponents, but the nerves he must have felt. To win the title in his first attempt shows that Basic has the mental fortitude to withstand the pressure and still perform close to his ability. This victory will reinforce his belief in his game. I am curious to see how his season develops now that he has cracked the top one hundred barrier for the first time. He can now get into some of the bigger tournaments without having to go through the qualifying rounds. Where will Basic end his 2018 season?

PLAYERS (within the top 100) SPOTS MOVED NEW RANK
Mirza Basic (BIH) UP  52 77              (CAREER HIGH)
Roberto Carballes-Baena (ESP) UP  31 76              (CAREER HIGH)
Thiago Monteiro (BRA) UP  22 96
Marius Copil (ROU) UP  19 74

ATP Tour:  all top ten members remained the same. Alexander Zverev and Grigor Dimitrov traded places; the remaining members maintained their exact positions from the previous week.

WTA Tour: all top ten members remained the same and maintained their exact positions from the previous week. There were minimal changes in the rankings on the WTA because of the Federation Cup. Expect to see changes at the end this week as players compete in Doha a Premier WTA event.

NEWS: Roger Federer can regain the number one ranking at the end of this week if he gets to the semifinals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. The current number two took a wildcard entry into the tournament and he is the number one seed.
