Americans Rule In Miami

Bryans win in Miami

Miami Open, USA

Mike Bryan/Bob Bryan (USA) vs. Karen Khachanov/Andrey Rublev (RUS)

The Bryan brothers were pushed back by the firepower from the Russian duo; however, their experience came to the rescue. Despite dropping the first set, the Americans found a way to rattle their younger opponents. The Americans won 4-6, 7-6(5), 10-4. This victory gave the Bryan brothers their 37th Masters 1000 title.

[5] Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) vs. [12] Sloane Stephens (USA)
It was a nervous start for both players and there were four straight breaks of serve before the first player held serve. Ostapenko goes for her shots, always; however, everything she threw at Stephens, the American got back. Just when things looked like the American had seized control; she got nervous both times she served for the first set. The first set went to a tiebreak, which could have gone either way. With the first set under her belt, Stephens relaxed and took control of the match. There were too many errors from the Latvian and the American won 7-6(5), 6-1. Stephens will make her debut in the top ten tomorrow at #9.

[5] Alexander Zverev (GER) vs. [17] John Isner (USA)

Zverev had never lost to Isner.  While the American was playing with extra motivation this tournament, Zverev appeared slightly off his top form. To beat someone like Isner, the German had to be at his best. Although he won the first set tiebreak; he was more vulnerable on serve and it was inevitable that Isner broke him in both the second and third sets to win 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4. Isner won his first Masters 1000 title, is back as the number one American man, and back in the top ten.

Ashleigh Barty (AUS)/Coco Vandeweghe (USA) vs. Barbora Krejcikova/Katerina Siniakova (CZE)

The first set started off with both teams playing very competitive tennis; however, once the American-Australian duo got the first break, it was quickly downhill for their opponents. Despite breaking their opponents in the second set, the Czech team struggled on serve. They never held serve in the second set and Barty and Vandeweghe won 6-2, 6-1.
