MOVER OF THE WEEK: Taylor Townsend

Taylor Townsend

SIGNIFICANT RANKING CHANGES FOR THE WEEK OF 04.23.2018

Taylor Townsend gets the honors as mover of the week. She won the Dothan ITF tournament over the weekend. She has been talked about for a very long time as a promising American star; however, she has yet to put it all together and perform as impressively as she did in the Juniors. Perhaps a result of having so much versatility to her game, she struggles to make the right choices under the pressure of a match. Hopefully this title will go a long way if re-confirming her belief in her game and help her to feel more confident in executing her shots. Her tennis idol is Martina Navratilova, a player well-known for her fitness and skill at the net. Townsend has a long way to go; however, it seems like she is finally beginning to take some positive steps. With this ranking she will not have to go through qualifying for the French Open because she gets direct entry into the main draw.

PLAYERS (within the top 100) SPOTS MOVED NEW RANK
Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) DOWN  16 40
Kei Nishikori (JPN) UP  14 22
Taylor Townsend (USA) UP  17 91
Yafan Wang (CHN) UP  12 86              (CAREER HIGH)

ATP Tour:  the top ten members remained the same. There were two minor positional changes: Alexander Zverev moves back up to #3 and Marin Cilic fell one spot to #4. Rafael Nadal maintains the #1 ranking.

WTA Tour: there were no changes in the top ten members; they all remained the same and maintained their exact positions from the previous week. There was no significant WTA tournament due the fact that it was the semifinal weekend of the Federation Cup (fed-Cup).

NEWS: The USA team won their tie and advanced to the Fed-Cup final to play the Czech team in November.
