Carlos Taberner Cracks The Top Hundred

Mover Of The Week: Carlos Taberner

It’s not healthy to compare players, yet, everyone does. Who will be the next great tennis star out of Spain? Everyone is pumping Carlos Alcaraz; and while they may be correct in their assumption, the pressure may be too much for the teenager. There is another Carlos though, Carlos Taberner.

I reference back to another youngster that everyone was pumping, Felix Auger-Aliassime. He is currently twenty-one; three consecutive years he made at least two finals and has yet to claim his first title [8 finals in total]. Why? When players feel too much pressure and are unable to cope with it emotionally, mentally, and physically, they lose their edge and struggle to perform at their best when it is required.

In contrast, without much fanfare, twenty-year old Yannik Sinner has already won five titles. Sinner turned professional in 2018, one year after Auger-Aliassime. Needless to say, I have digressed. There is another Spaniard on the horizon. A little older than his compadres; however, still young enough to make a run for the top. At twenty-four, Carlos Taberner has some ground to make up and he did that this week. The Spaniard cracked the top one hundred for the first time and hopes to keep improving his ranking with ATP Tour title wins.
