Several years ago, I wrote an article critiquing Frances Tiafoe for not living up to his potential. I got a lot of push back because many thought I was being too harsh. However, I stand by that assessment, because I saw his potential. I think many athletes take their talents for granted, only to miss their opportunity to shine even more than they do.

I am happy to see Frances Tiafoe playing up to his potential. I saw him compete and dug deep to wrestle that title away from Jan-Lennard Struff. This is the potential I saw in him. With his three-set victory, the American moved up two spots to a career high of number ten. Of course, there are quite a few talented players in both the ATP and WTA Tours, who are not living up to their potential.

I have no idea who or what finally inspired Frances Tiafoe. I am just happy to see him competing better. His belief and ability to execute with confidence has clearly improved. How high can he climb if he continues to stay healthy and focused? Only Tiafoe can answer that question. The thing with confidence, it can be fickle if it is not cemented in truth and love.

ATP & WTA Top 10 Ranking Changes
ATP: there is a new top ten member. Frances Tiafoe breaks the top ten barrier by displacing Karen Khachanov from the #10 position. The current top four players are: [1] Novak Djokovic; [2] Carlos Alcaraz; [3] Daniil Medvedev; and [4] Casper Ruud.
WTA: there were no changes in the top ten members or positions. The current top four players are: [1] Iga Swiatek; [2] Aryna Sabalenka; [3] Elena Rybakina; and [4] Caroline Garcia.
