Gael Monfils Wins Stockholm Title

Gael Monfils

Gael Monfils was once ranked as high as number six. Unfortunately for Monfils, he has been plagued by a lot of injuries. The interesting thing about Monfils is that he has struggled to capitalize on his final opportunities. He has been in thirty-four finals; yet, he has only won twelve titles.

Gael Monfils Wins Title Number 12

At thirty-seven, the Frenchman still has game. Although it was not a tournament packed with top ten players, he still had to play good ball to get to the final and win the BNP Paribas Nordic Open. Still, it was not an easy victory. The qualifier, Pavel Kotov, won the first set and forced the second set to a tiebreaker. Perhaps nerves prevented the Russian from capitalizing on the opportunity. This was his first ATP singles final.

Can Monfils Still Win Big?

What does this mean for Gael Monfils? Perhaps because he has been injured often, he still has reserves in his body. It would be nice to see him win a big tournament before he retires.
