Luciano Darderi woke up this morning with many reasons to be joyful. Not only did he wake up this morning, but he is in the top hundred; however, best of all, he went from being a qualifier to winning his first ATP title at the Cordoba Open. A lot of firsts for this young Italian, who won his first title on his first attempt. Darderi defeated the defending champion en route to winning the final 6-1, 6-4, and really showed many his mental fortitude.

Luciano Darderi was ranked number ten as a junior. He is a Valentine baby, who will be twenty-two-years old in two days. The Italian has won three ITF titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. Interesting tidbit, there were two qualifiers in the Cordoba Open final, which makes it the third time on the ATP Tour that two qualifiers meet in the final of a tournament. Now the Italian is officially a member of the top hundred, which should help him avoid some of the qualifying rounds with direct entry into the main draw.
