It is that stage of the Australian Open when seeds will play each other. The number one seed, Carlos Alcaraz, had a much easier day at the office against [32] Corentin Moutet. Alcaraz won 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. [12] Elina Svitolina defeated [23] Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-3. [17] Victoria Mboko defeated [14] Clara Tauson 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3. [3] Alexander Zverev defeated [26] Cameron Norrie 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. [18] Francisco Cerundolo defeated [13] Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3. American [29] Frances Tiafoe fell in straight sets to [6] Alex de Minaur. It was a bit disappointing that he did not make it more of a match. De Minaur won 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

[3] Coco Gauff got tested by fellow American, Hailey Baptiste. Gauff dug deep to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. [19] Tommy Paul had an easy go at it, unfortunately due to RET. Paul won 6-1, 6-1, RET. Paul will need all the luck he can get in the next round, when he faces Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz leads their H2H 5:2 and has won the last four encounters. Can Paul elevate his game long enough to get the biggest upset of the tournament?

[29] Iva Jovic got lucky the third time around. However, it was more than luck. Her game has grown up along with a healthier mindset. She got a little nervous/tight in the second set and struggled to close out the match. Kudos to [7] Jasmine Paolini who fought really hard in the second set. Unfortunately, it was not enough. Jovic won 6-2, 7-6(3).
Tien Heading For Another Medvedev Showdown
[25] Learner Tien defeated Nuno Borges 7-6(9), 6-4, 6-2. He will get another opportunity to face [11] Daniil Medvedev. Tien may have an easier time around this time as Medvedev had back to back difficult rounds. In the preceding round, the Russian had to come back from two sets down. However, we have come to expect some amazing comebacks from Medvedev, so we will not write him off just yet.
