Anastasia Potapova Embraces New Challenges As Top Ranked Austrian

Anastasia Potapova

Anastasia Potapova, who has transitioned from representing Russia to playing for Austria, first reached the finals of two WTA singles tournaments in 2018. It wasn’t until four years later, in Istanbul, that she clinched her inaugural WTA singles title. In June 2023, Potapova achieved her career-high ranking of world number twenty-one. Notably, she is the 2016 Wimbledon juniors champion and was once the top-ranked junior player in the world.

New Beginnings and Challenges For Anastasia Potapova

Anastasia Potapova embarked on her professional tennis journey in 2017, initially representing Russia until her switch to Austrian nationality in December 2025. Like many athletes, she faced challenges, including an ankle surgery. Competing as an Austrian, Potapova reached the finals of the Linz Open, where she faced off against Mirra Andreeva but fell short. ATP: there were several positional changes in the top ten. Sinner and Alcaraz traded places to #1 and #2, respectively.
