Peyton Stearns Amongst Day 4 American Successes

Nice win for Peyton Stearns, who advanced to the third round after handing the bagel in the second set to Daria Snigur. Stearns no doubt is hoping to go deep in the draw to get her ranking back to her career high, or higher. She won 6-4, 6-0. It sucks when you have to play a compatriot.  Alex Michelsen went over three hours on court to defeat Nishesh Basavareddy 7-6(5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Elena Rybakina Leads The Fallen Day 4 Seeds

[2] Elena Rybakina was upset by Yuliia Starodubtseva, which was a bit of a surprise; however, perhaps I am jaded now, but everyone steps up at the majors, so not really a surprise. Rybakina won the first set 6-3, but Starodubtseva fought back to convincingly take the second 6-1. The match went the distance, and the Ukrainian got the 7-6(10-4) victory in the end.

Solana Sierra means business and she showed us just what she is made of when she fought back from dropping the first set 3-6 to [13] Jasmine Paolini. The Argentinian claimed the next two sets 6-4, 6-3. [21] Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won the first set, squandered his opportunity to win the second and ended up losing the match. Thiago Agustin Tirante made him pay for the lapse in concentration, winning 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1, 6-3.

[26] Hailey Baptiste retires from her match. Such a pity for the American, I hope it is nothing too serious; however, quite concerning that she was wheeled off the court with what looks to be a rather painful left knee injury. We will keep her in prayer for a speedy and full recovery. Xiyu Wang won 5-4 [RET]. [29] Jelena Ostapenko, former Roland Garros champion, could not get past the determined Magda Linette. Linette won 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. [32] Ugo Humbert ran into a determined countryman, Quentin Halys. Halys won 6-4, 7-6(4), 7-6(8). [32] Xinyu Wang could not shake Tamara Korpatsch. The German won 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
