Robin Montgomery was ranked as high as number ninety-five in June 2025. Interestingly, Montgomery owns a junior title in both singles and doubles at the US Open. She turned professional in 2019. Seven years later and outside the top hundred (ranked 484), the American claimed her first singles title in the Netherlands by a walkover. Her opponent, Barbora Krejcikova, withdrew due to an “upper respiratory illness.” This victory marks a pivotal moment in Montgomery’s career, signaling her potential resurgence in the competitive tennis arena.

In addition to the prize money, Robin Montgomery received by winning the title, her ranking also improved significantly. The American’s ranking was boosted by 290 spots as a result of claiming her first WTA singles title. Keep in mind she is still just twenty-one. More than anything, she will take from the victory the confidence that she can compete at the top. Montgomery had to get through the qualifying rounds to play in the main draw, and she came prepared to play well. While she would have much preferred to win the trophy after winning the match, she is still a WTA champion. Congratulations, and I hope this will inspire her to get back into the top hundred.
