It was a dominant performance from [8] Ben Shelton. He played some of the best tennis I have ever seen from him. Shelton left the emotional antics on the side and focused on letting his racquet do the talking. There simply was not much Stefanos Tsitsipas could do. The American never faced a break point, which meant he backed up his serve with some fine playing to win 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

Frances Tiafoe Played With Focus

[11] Frances Tiafoe turned the tables on [7] Daniil Medvedev. In their seven previous matches, the Russian dominated their matches 6:1. Tiafoe impressed me today with his consistent level of play. I know I have been a bit hard on the American, but he has so much potential. I felt that if he channeled his energy into playing rather than entertaining, he would accomplish much more on the tennis court. This performance proved just that. Tiafoe won in straight sets 7-6(1), 6-4, 7-6(6).

Pegula And Navarro On A Collison Course

[3] Jessica Pegula defeated [16] Sorana Cirstea. The thirty-six-year-old Romanian has announced that this will be her last year on tour. Going into this match Pegula led their H2H 3:1. She knew she needed to maintain her focus because the Romanian can be dangerous. It got a little tricky in the second set, but the American held on for the 6-3, 6-4 victory. [26] Emma Navarro defeated [21] Anna Kalinskaya 6-4, 6-2. This was an awesome victory for the American who had struggled in the past to defeat the Russian. With this victory Navarro not only advance to the quarterfinals of the US Open, but she also gets her first win over her opponent.

Michelsen Amongst The Other American Winners

Alex Michelsen keeps the streak alive and is into the quarterfinals of the US Open without dropping a set. Today he defeated [27] Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6(6), 6-4, 6-4. This victory was especially special as it gave the American his first major quarterfinal appearance. This is the second seeded player that Michelsen has defeated in the tournament. The American wildcard duo of Brandon Carpico and Nikita Samuel Filin upended the veteran duo of Marcelo Melo and John Peers 3-6, 7-6(0), 6-4. In the first round, they knocked out the eighth seeded team of Luz/Matos in three sets.

Paul Amongst Fallen Seeded Players

[6] Linda Noskova quietly continues to do her thing. [11] Marta Kostyuk threatened in the first set, but Noskova held her ground. Keep in mind that Noskova is the 2026 Wimbledon champion. Kostyuk broke Noskova when she served for the match and then broke again to win the second set. However, you can never count a champion out. Noskova shook off the second set wobble to win 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

American [20] Tommy Paul was no threat to [2] Carlos Alcaraz. Paul, another talented player, can often play inconsistently. His laid-back attitude did him no good today and it was one of his worst performances against the Spaniard. Forget winning a set, he never even pushed a set to a tiebreaker. Alcaraz won 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
