Qinwen Zheng could not pull off another upset today. Rybakina won 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. This victory guaranteed that Rybakina will be the new ranked number one player on the WTA Tour come Monday.

[5] Mirra Andreeva had [4] Coco Gauff against the rope, but she could not deliver the knockout. The double faults crept into Gauff’s game once again and she looked distressed. Andreeva got riled because despite the subpar level of play from Gauff, the American ran everything down. The result, errors flew off the Russian’s racquet and Gauff came back from the brink of defeat to win 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2.

The number one seed has made it to the semifinals and will contest his match against the veteran Karen Khachanov. Zverev leads their H2H 6:3. Unfortunately, in the bottom half of the draw, two American men must battle each other for a final spot (Ben Shelton versus Frances Tiafoe). Shelton leads their H2H 3:1. The women’s semifinals are also set. Jessica Pegula faces Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka leads their H2H 9:4. Coco Gauff gets Elena Rybakina. They are tied 1:1. Gauff will have to take her game up a lot if she wants to get to the final.
Alexander Blockx Retires Due To Injury
Karen Khachanov advances to the semifinals when [28] Alexander Blockx retired due to injury. The youngster got injured in the previous round and really tried to give it everything he had, but his body would not cooperate. It was obvious he was in pain. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery. The Russian won 6-2, 7-5, 3-2 RET.

[1] Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova are into the US Open doubles final. The defeated [8] Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider 6-0, 7-6(8). Let’s give a round of applause for the America duo of Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger. Interestingly, they won the US Open girl’s doubles championship when they were seventeen. They defeated the second seeds of Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-8). In the end it can be one American or two American women who walk away with the double’s trophy.
