Katerina Siniakova And The Power Of Showing Up

Katerina Siniakova

You have got to admire Katerina Siniakova’s persistence. She is number one in doubles and really, she can simply walk away from singles. However, year after year she keeps putting herself out there in singles. Ranked as high as number twenty-seven in June 2024, her ranking in singles fell as expected from injury and other circumstances. She had not won a singles title since 2023. Siniakova just proved that age is just a number when she won her sixth singles title in Osaka, at the Japan Open. She crushed American Ashlyn Krueger one and love to win title. Sometimes it takes a little luck to win a title.

Luck Was Help By Katerina Siniakova’s Persistence

Luck helped, but resilience did the heavy lifting. Ranked eighty-six in singles, Siniakova arrived in Osaka with a 15-18 record, yet she beat the number two seed, Peyton Stearns, and the number eight seed, Katie Boulter.  The Czech player dropped just one set all week. In the final, she won ten consecutive games. She also became the first Czech champion in the event’s history, ten years after losing the final there. At thirty-years-old, with 39 career doubles titles, she had every reason to stop absorbing losses in singles. She never did, and on Sunday, her persistence paid off.
