Serena battles illness to victory

2012 SerenaAUSTRALIAN OPEN

[CR1] Serena Williams vs. [CR10] Dominika Cibulkova (SVK)

Not wanting to exhaust herself any more than necessary, Serena came out focused and determined to avoid another three setter.  There was nothing that Cibulkova could do to derail Serena from her goal of a quick win.  Although her movement remains questionable, maybe conserving energy because she is not feeling well, Serena served extremely well and attacked every ball that she could.

Cibulkova had opportunities to break Serena in the second set; however, Serena served her way out of danger each time.  Frustration was evident on Cibulkova’s face, although she tried to remain positive.  Cibulkova fought as hard as she could but in this frame of mind, Serena was unstoppable.  She won easily and convincingly 6-2, 6-2.  Now the questions begin, is Serena capable of beating Madison Keys?  Will  illness/injury play a role in the outcome of that match?
