There is now another Czech player to pay attention to on the WTA tour. Twenty-one-year-old Marie Bouzkova made herself known as a player to be reckoned with when she dispatched of the number seven seed, Sloane Stephens, in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto. The young Czech player did not stop there, she rolled easily over the former French Open champion, Jelena Ostapenko, in the next round. Then she took out the number four seed, reigning Wimbledon champion, Simona Halep, in the quarterfinals.
Prior to this tournament, Bouzkova had never gone further than the first round of any significant WTA event. She did, however, get to the final of a smaller WTA event (125K Series) in March of this year. So, now that she has made herself known, what will the young Czech player do for the rest of the season? How will she perform at the last major of the season? We will be keeping an eye on the young talent.
