  1. Top seeded American, [4] Sofia Kenin, falls in straight sets to [82] Madison Brengle. Brengle won 6-2, 6-4.
  2. [28] John Isner loses in five sets to [58] Yoshihito Nishioka. It’s a tough loss for the American, who lost 6-7 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 4-6.
  3. Bernarda Pera continues to struggle to get out of the early rounds of the majors despite her talent. Today she lost to [85] Nao Hibino 1-6, 7-5, 3-6.
  4. Amanda Anisimova also continues to struggle to find consistency in her top form. After winning the first set easily, the American lost her way and the match 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 to [44] Magda Linette.
  5. Venus Williams is out of Wimbledon. The American lost to the red hot [21] Ons Jabeur 5-7, 0-6.
  6. Claire Liu lost to [18] Elena Rybakina 4-6, 4-6.
  7. Danielle Collins lost 2-6, 0-6 to [66] Viktorija Golubic.

American Successes On Day 3

  1. [31] Taylor Fritz dispatched of fellow American [138] Brandon Nakashima 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
  2. Frances Tiafoe defeated [65] Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
  3. Sloane Stephens appears to be ready to compete. She defeated fellow American Kristie Ahn 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the third round.
  4. Marcos Giron had to go the distance today to defeat [76] Emil Ruusuvuori. He won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
  5. Steve Johnson got by [122] Dennis Novak 7-6 (7), 6-2, 7-5.
  6. Nice to see American [114] Denis Kudla back on the tennis courts. His ranking has fallen outside the top hundred. However, Kudla knows how to play on grass. He defeated [90] Andreas Seppi 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
  7. Coco Vandeweghe is back at Wimbledon, and she defeated [36] Olga Govortsova 6-4, 6-2.
  8. Sebastian Korda won his match 7-5, 6-4, 6-4. It was a bit tricky at the end because Antoine Hoang was not quite ready to call it quits. However, the twenty-year-old American was equally determined to win.

Seeds Losing Early At Wimbledon

  1. [5] Bianca Andreescu lost easily to Alize Cornet 2-6, 1-6. Cornet seems to have a knack for disrupting the rhythm of the top seeds on the big stage.
  2. [9] Belinda Bencic lost 3-6, 3-6, to [102] Kaja Juvan.
  3. [11] Pablo Carreno Busta has never made it past the first round of Wimbledon. Unfortunately, the Spaniard did not win his first round match today. American[54] Sam Querrey defeated him 7-6 (6), 6-4, 7-5.
  4. [12] Caster Ruud will certainly not be happy losing in the first round at Wimbledon. The Norwegian lost 6-7 (6), 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2, 2-6 to [78] Jordan Thompson. This is a heartbreaker for sure.
  5. [20] Aslan Karatsev lost 6-7 (4), 6-7 (6), 3-6 to [61] Jeremy Chardy.
  6. [21] Ugo Humbert lost in a thrilling two-day five-setter to [60] Nick Kyrgios. Humbert had a two sets to one lead before the Australian came charging back in the fourth set to even the match. The fifth set was a battle. Kyrgios won 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 9-7.
  7. [24] Anett Kontaveit was no doubt hoping to go deep in the draw; however, [42] Marketa Vondrousova had other plans. The Czech player fought back after dropping the first to claim the 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Special Mention

The thirteenth seed, Gael Monfils scraped by [130] Christopher O’Connell. After winning the second and third sets, Monfils lost his focus and had to go five in order to secure the victory. His countryman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, was not as fortunate. He fought back to take the lead but just could not quite close the door on the young Swede. [98] Mikael Ymer took the fourth and fifth sets to win the match.
