Coco Gauff Looking Strong At Wimbledon

Coco Gauff Leading The Pack

The twentieth seed in the women’s draw is Cori Gauff. Coco Gauff as everyone calls her is hoping to go much further at Wimbledon than she did in 2019 when she made it to the fourth round. The teenager took another step in that direction with her 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Elena Vesnina. In 2016 Vesnina made it to the semifinals and in 2017 she was part of the doubles team that won the Wimbledon doubles title.

Nice to see Coco Vandeweghe back on the courts; however, she is not back at her best level just yet. After winning the first set 6-4, Vandeweghe was not able to keep the momentum going. Katerina Siniakova came surging back to win the next two sets and the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Day 4: American Men Wimbledon Results

The top male seed is already out of the draw. Now American hopes rest on a few old timers and the younger generation. At twenty-nine years old, Tennys Sandgren came up against the fourth seed, Alexander Zverev. Unfortunately for Sandgren it ended in three sets, as Zverev won 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

In 2017, Sam Querrey got to the semifinals of Wimbledon. Grass has been his best surface by far for the majors; however, he will have to wait until next year because he lost 5-7, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 2-6 to James Duckworth. Marcos Giron lost in straight sets to the fourteenth seed, Hubert Hurkacz, 3-6, 2-6, 4-6. Two American men battled to get to the third round, and they were [31] Taylor Fritz and Steve Johnson. This match may cause Fritz some problems going forward; however, for now he got the 6-4, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4 victory.

Seeds Did Not Fare Well

Third seed, Elina Svitolina, had her Wimbledon plans derailed by the resurgent performance of Magda Linette. The Polish player is hoping to get to the second week of a major for the first time in her career. She is one step closer with the 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Svitolina. Victoria Azarenka was the twelfth seed; however, that did not help her today. She fell in three sets to Sorana Cirstea [6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-6].

Thirteenth seed Gael Monfils’ run, like his fiancée’s, has come to an end. Pedro Martinez defeated the Frenchman 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5). American Shelby Rogers upset the fifteenth seed, Maria Sakkari, in straight sets to advance to the third round of Wimbledon. Grigor Dimitrov cannot get a break, he made the semifinals before but not today. It has been an erratic performance for the Bulgarian of late. The eighteenth seed lost to big serving Alexander Bublik. Bublik won 6-4, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4).  Jelena Ostapenko defeated Daria Kasatkina. Kasatkina was the thirty-first seed and she lost in a three-set thriller 1-6, 6-3, 6-8.
