Soonwoo Kwon Wins First Title

Soonwoo Kwon

The mover of the week is twenty-three-year-old, Soonwoo Kwon. The Korean won his first ATP singles title in Nur-Sultan, defeating four players who were ranked higher than him. Soonwoo Kwon turned professional in 2015 and has been putting in the hard work behind the scenes.

At twenty-three, he has accomplished a lot more than many players before him, win a coveted tour title. The tennis scene since the coronavirus pandemic has become the land of opportunity for many who can take advantage of the lack of players competing. Add to that, many players are out of commission due to injury. There is still plenty of opportunity left until the 2021 season ends, lets see who will continue to rise to the occasion.

ATP & WTA Top 10 Ranking Changes

ATP: There were no changes in the rankings of the top members and Novak Djokovic is still going strong at #1.

WTA: there is a new addition to the top ten, Maria Sakkari cracks the ten top at #10. however, there were some minors changes. Iga Swiatek each moved up two spots to #4. Naomi Osaka and Sofia Kenin traded places to #7 and #8 respectively. Elina Svitolina fell two spots to #6 and Ashleigh Barty remains at #1.

FYI: Serena Williams is currently ranked #40 and Venus Williams is ranked #152.

THE TOP 4 RANKED AMERICAN MEN:  Reilly Opelka [19]; John Isner [21]; Taylor Fritz [39]; and Sebastian Korda [42]. The last American man to be in the top ten was John Isner in May 2019.

THE TOP 4 RANKED AMERICAN WOMEN: Sofia Kenin [8]; Cori “Coco” Gauff [19]; Jennifer Brady [21]; and Jessica Pegula [24].
