Jessica Pegula Is In the Miami Open Semifinals

Jessica Pegula

Why is that big news for American tennis fans? Jessica Pegula will face the recently crowned WTA number one, Iga Swiatek. Furthermore, Pegula won their only previous encounter in 2019.

Does Pegula Have A Realistic Shot At Winning?

Yes, she does! However, several things must be working in her favor for the American to notch another victory over the Pole. Pegula needs to forget that she is playing for a final appearance in a top tier tournament. Then, she must forget that she is up against the current number one. She needs to remember that she has defeated Swiatek before. Finally, when all is said and done, she must execute her game to perfection to upend her opponent.

Swiatek Is Willing To Suffer Like Her Idol

I have to give Swiatek props. She knows that sometimes you have to go beyond the discomfort to get the victory. She learned that one from her idol, Rafael Nadal. That is where she has the advantage over many of her opponents. Will American Jessica Pegula be willing to go beyond the discomfort and dig deep for the victory? I do not know Pegula well enough to answer that question. I do know that some players either have that trait or they don’t.

Miami Open Semifinals Are Set

This should really be some impressive tennis to watch for all avid fans. Naomi Osaka seems to have recovered her top form. Belinda Bencic is surging again. Interestingly, Bencic leads their head-to-head 3:1. The question is, “Which Bencic will show up today?” When she is on, she can beat anyone; however, when she is not, anyone can beat her. Looking forward to this match, it will allow us to assess where Osaka’s game is.
