Tiafoe has even made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, but what has he done at Wimbledon? Twice Tiafoe has made it to the third round of Wimbledon and today he took it a step further. The twenty-four-year-old American is into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time.

Frances Tiafoe Faced A Mercurial Opponent

Alexander Bublik has game, but is he always in the game? Bublik could have won this match in straight sets, IF his head was fully in the game. So, credit the American for resisting the challenge from Bublik. Frances Tiafoe stepped up his game in the tiebreakers and neutralized the power of his opponent with his own brand of power. It was a test to the end and the American came out on top 3-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(3), 6-4.

The Other Americans Who Played Today

Steve Johnson lost in three sets to [9] Cameron Norrie 4-6, 1-6, 0-6. [20] John Isner lost in straight sets to [10] Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7(4), 3-6. American Jack Sock is having a resurgence at Wimbledon. Sock knocked out fellow countryman, Maxime Cressy, 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(1). The run continues for [30] Tommy Paul, who easily dispatched of Jiri Vesely 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Marie Bouzkova upended the American, [28] Alison Riske, 6-2, 6-3.

Tatjana Maria Got The Upset Of The Day

Tatjana Maria is into the fourth round of a major for the first time in her singles career. Yet, it should not be a surprise as she has been to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in doubles, so she knows how to play on grass. Maria defeated [5] Maria Sakkari 6-3, 7-5. Caroline Garcia battled past [33] Shuai Zhang in two tiebreakers, 7-6(3), 7-6(5). Tim Van Rijthoven upset [22] Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

It was not a good serving day for [15] Angelique Kerber. Against a nifty retriever like [24] Elise Mertens, that meant trouble for the German. She was broken twice in the first set, which went to Mertens. Yet, the champion did not go down without a fight. Unfortunately, it was not her day. Kerber lost 4-6, 5-7 to Mertens.
